After all of the delays and waiting for the powers that be to make up their minds, the day of my shoulder surgery finally arrived. On Wednesday,January sixth, Bill and Joyce,Pam and I got into Bill's van and off to the Tacoma Surgery Center we went.(The reason I was having surgery was because I had some bone spurs in my shoulder poking into a muscle.)The surgery went well although it took a little longer than expected. When I woke up in recovery and felt well enough to walk I could go home.It was a good thing that we went to the center in Bill's van because I don't think Pam could have gotten me in our car.It sits alot lower than his van.Oh, and by the way,did I mention, the surgery was on my right shoulder.Yes, I am right handed.I don't do left handed very well at all. When we got home I hadn't been allowed to eat or drink for about twenty four hours so I was more than ready.Bill's daughter Ruth had made some soup and buns that would just melt in your mouth.Needless to say they had me pretty well medicated for the pain and I had to take more every four hours for the next few days. The first few days I had to try and get some sleep in my recliner.Bed was out of the question.(I also like to sleep on my right side, not going to happen.)The first week kind of went in a blur.My first week visit to the doctor went well.I had my stitches out and new x-rays to see how the surgery went.Everything looked good.I got a new supply of meds and off we went.I try and not take the pain meds anymore than is necessary because they just put me on cloud nine and I don't like the way they make me feel. The doctor wants to see me again in six weeks after six weeks of rehab.I have rehab twice a week or should I call it by what it really is,(Torture). Actually, its not really that bad as long as you take your pain meds Before you go.The first session I didn't take the meds first and paid for it later. So far I have had three sessions and things are actually progressing quite well.Sleep is another issue. Here I am at midnight writing this when I should be sleeping. The doctor gave me some sleeping pills, but to no avail, they don't work either.I am off to rehab again in the morning for my last session this week.It will sure be nice when this is all over and I can get back to a normal way of life.I can't wait for the day when I can use my right arm again without pain.We take so many things for granted not realizing how fortunate we really are...........
